Babyganics Triple Dry Review

Babyganics is the brainchild of two childhood friends, Kevin and Keith. The inspiration came when they started families and wanted good products for their homes, families, and the Earth. They tried to find products that were good for babies and the environment. The same friends now have five kids between them and are still running the company together.

Likes

There isn't much to like about the Triple Dry, but we were impressed with its construction. It feels like it would hold up to a lot of liquid and that the tabs and design were made to work as expected every time. The diaper is relatively new, but we also didn't find many complaints of faulty tabs or diapers breaking up under regular use.

Dislikes

This diaper performed poorly in our absorption tests. With three tests under its belt, they all failed in a similar fashion. During testing, the filter paper we used to compare how effective the diapers are at absorbing and retaining liquids showed that there was a significant amount of moisture still sitting on top or available to contact a baby's skin.

If a diaper can't quickly and effectively contain moisture, it isn't doing the basic job of a diaper.

Potential leakage is also a problem for this diaper, with far more runoff experienced during testing than the competition. During testing, there was a significant amount of "urine" in our run-off pan, indicating that keeping liquids contained is not the strong suit of this diaper. This could lead to soiled clothing, more blowouts, or frequent diaper changes (increasing overall costs).

We also didn't think there was much here for comfort, given the impressive competition. With average shell fabric that is neither soft nor harsh, it isn't a standout in this metric. The material feels like paper, and the elastic at the leg cuffs and back isn't stretchy or very forgiving. The leg gussets appear to be effective, and while it is not a rough feeling, they do have a papery feel that is not as soft as competitors. Last, for comfort, the tabs on the diaper are somewhat pokey, and while not a deal breaker, it isn't a requirement to work well, so it feels like an oversight by Babyganics.

This Babyganics is also not a stand out for baby skin, potential irritants, or considerations for the environment. While this diaper is made using totally chlorine-free (TCF) practices and claims it is made "without synthetic fragrances" (which is not the same as fragrance-free), it uses some kind of dye or ink to add patterns to the shell, and it has a "Neo Nourish Seed Oil Blend" on the top sheet. While the oil blend might be made of natural ingredients, the addition of unnecessary ingredients could cause irritation to delicate skin, so it isn't ideal, and frankly, it feels unnecessary. The company also doesn't offer much transparency about ingredients or production, which hurts its scores in both metrics. There is much talk about what it doesn't contain but not much talk about what it does.

Should You Buy the Babyganics Triple Dry?

While Babyganics is a much-loved brand for many reasons, the Triple Dry diaper simply is not. While we can see why parents might be drawn to the higher quality option that claims to be free of common chemicals of concern, we still think there is much to be desired in this diaper. With poor performance results in our tests for absorption and leak protection, it is hard to recommend this diaper. Given that you can find a higher-performing diaper in every metric with better prices, we think you should look elsewhere in your quest for disposable protection.
